How my puppies are rasied

People are always curious as to how their new puppies are raised, so I have added this page to answer the questions you may have on how I do things with my dams and litters.
People are always concerned about Puppy Mills, and they should be! My adult dogs are my pets/kids! Although I do have a lot of dogs it is because I am not a mill, but a caring breeder, My dogs are raised as part of the family, used to life as a pet as they mature. My girls are not bred until they are 1-2 years old depending on the breed, they are also not bred every time they come into heat, most average 3-4 litters in their life. They are retired from breeding and placed in pet homes, or remain here with me, at 5-6 years of age to live the rest of their lives as a cherished family pet. So at anytime, I have girls who are retiring, girls who are breeding and girls who are growing up to breed.
The small dogs have indoor/outdoor kennels and infloor radient heat in the kennel in the winter, and in the summer it is air conditioned. The big dogs have large roomy kennels. They all get to spend free time out of their kennels, running and playing in the yard with each other and me, they also get to take turns staying in the house with me. When it's time to go back into their kennels, all I have to do is clap my hands and say "Kennel" and in they go! I also have a 100 square foot fenced in area in the back yard so both adults and older puppies can play outside without my constant supervision.
My goals in breeding my dogs are to produce a geneticaly healthy, sound, stable tempramented dog, to become a life long family pet, the purebreds (Poodles, Aussies and Mini Dachshunds) are bred according to breed standards and the adults are carefully matched to ensure the best possible puppies.
The females are up to date on shots before breeding and once the pregnancy is confirmed they are fed puppy food and giving NuVet vitamins to give their babies a sound start. The dam is set up to whelp in the kennel nursery, this insures them a peaceful, quiet, and secure place to have their litter, free of the distractions that would occur in the house. Once the puppies are born, they are picked up, cuddled, loved and handled many times a day. After the puppies eyes and ears are open and they start toddling around (about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of age) they are moved into the house. I have a room (Foyer) between the house and garage where momma and babies are set up. The puppies are then able to come in the house on a regular basis to become accoustomed to daily household activities, sights and sounds. They are also started on paper training, and in the warmer months they get to spend time playing outdoors and get used to pottying outside too.
Although I do not show my puppies to strangers until they have had their first shots done, they are socialized to many people I know, friends and family, who I do not have to worry about bringing in diseases. I do not have kids of my own, but I have 4 brothers who live within 3 miles of me, and a total of 12 nieces and nephews who love to spend time here and play with the puppies! So my puppies are well socialized to kids when they leave. Puppies are also used to bathing and grooming when they leave. They are wormed and vaccinated according to veterinarian standards per their age.
Puppies picked up here come with their complete health records for your vet, a 2 year genetic health guarantee, a Purina Puppy folder/starter kit, a sample package of their puppy food, their first collar and leash, a couple of toys to remind them of their littermates, a copy of my crate and potty training tips, a Sheet with my tips and advice on raising a new puppy, and a lifetime return policy,(I will take them back if the need to rehome ever occurs!) and my support for the lifetime of your new baby! Puppies who are shipped come with health records, crate and pottty training sheet, new puppy tips sheet, a sample of their food, 2 year guarantee, a stuffed toy (If the airline allows it!) and a lifetime of support!
